![]() Serbia, in particular the valley of the Morava, which is the easiest way of traveling overland from continental Europe to Greece and Asia Minor, is often described as "the crossroads between East and West," and is one of the reasons for its turbulent history. The Republic of Serbia comprises Serbia proper and two autonomous provinces-Kosovo and Metohija in the south that was under the administration of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo in 2007, and Vojvodina in the north. ![]() ![]() It is bordered by Hungary on the north, Romania and Bulgaria on the east, Albania and Republic of Macedonia on the south, and Montenegro, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the west.
